Save old castle lachlan (SOCL) Fund

A save old castle lachlan (SOCL) Fund has been formed by the Lachlan Trust of Canada, a registered charity, and the Clan Lachlan Association of Canada . The objectives of the Fund are:

to help the preservation of the remains of a 700 year old castle in the ancestral home of the Clan in Argyll, Scotland.
to initiate a long term program to develop a series of E books, Blu-Ray & DVD discs highlighting Scottish and Celtic history and supporting Scottish Studies. We will be providing a unique opportunity to experience the Scotland of your ancestors.
to develop an interpretative experience of the Clan for visitors returning to their ancestral roots in Scotland .

SOCL Club

Pledges to the SOCL Fund bring membership in the SOCL Club, participation in an annual draw for members and a charitable deduction .
Basic SOCL Club Membership brings Associate Membership of the Clan Lachlan Association(CLA) with online access to the clan magazine, newsletters from Canada and Scotland, a growing collection of historical E books and genealogy information,
For SOCL Club members, there would be a monthly newsletter by E mail with draws for prizes.
For SOCL Club members only, there would be an annual draw organized on behalf of the Lachlan Trust of Scotland.
We plan a membership drive each year culminating in this annual draw. We were unable to launch this drive in 2009 and our annual drive will be from February 2010 to January 2011.
The SOCL Fund will operate on a cost of living basis which is independent of currency fluctuations. For example in 30 years the Clan Society membership has been $20 to $25.00 in all countries regardless of the major currency changes in that period. There will be one dollar price regardless of whether it is AU$, CA$, NZ$ or US$.

Major Prizes

The Flagship Prize will be a week for two in Scotland with car rental, a four day stay at the "new castle" built circa 1790 and three days in Edinburgh.
The Canadian Prize will be a visit for two to central Canada beginning in Toronto, our largest city. Depart on The Canadian, VIA Rail's flagship transcontinental train, then by floatplane for a stay with North to Adventure at a wilderness lodge. Upon returning to Toronto visit Niagara Falls!

For those with an ancestor born in Scotland or Ireland named MacLachlan , Lachlan, McLaughlin, Laughlin, Claflin, Gilcrist or MacEwen, or any of the 400 variations in spelling, you are eligible by blood to become a Clan Society member and support your ancestral clan. Membership in CLA brings also Clan Society membership.

For all Clan membership fees , a portion is a pledge to the SOCL Fund . There are membership pledges ranging from $15.00 to $2,000.00. See: Clan Lachlan Association
